A Year of Stuff - The Bad Stuff

Following on from A Year of Stuff - The Good Stuff, this entry basically tells you who and what I wish I’d avoided this year. Here goes…

  • First up to the chopping block is Ghoulnet, the hosts of workingwith.me.uk. Over the past couple of months I’ve had to raise 6 tickets with them, regarding the accessibility of this website. Whilst they’ve replied within one day of all those tickets being raise, and generally within a few hours, the fact remains that the site keeps going down. Earlier this year, they sent out an email saying that they were upgrading all their servers to spangly new ones, and provided a link to a page containing a detailed description of what they were planning on doing. This was, if memory serves, meant to have been completed by about May time. Now, that description page is MIA, and there’s no mention of the server upgrade anywhere. I’m on the lookout for a new host now that has good levels of uptime. Anyone have any ideas?
  • The student finance people have been really rather annoying this last year too. Admittedly I did apply for my loan a month late, so I was expecting my loan to correspondingly come in late. However, on speaking to the Student Finance people, I was told that at the very outside it should take about twelve weeks for my loan to be completely processed by them. Five and a half months later, my loan should be going into my bank account on the 23rd of December. Just in time to buy last minute christmas presents then!
  • The third year student workload. Well, I had to have a moan about this somewhere, didn’t I? The level of work that I’m doing this year far exceeds that which needed to be done in the second year, and in my year in industry. It’s only to be expected, but it does get a little tiring after a while.

I’m going back home for Christmas in a couple of days, so on the off-chance that I don’t write another entry before then, I hope you all have a very merry Christmas.
